The 4th Annual Rainbow Fashion Week 2017

Rainbow Fashion Week was created to feature nothing ordinary by any standard.

Rainbow Fashion Week (RFW) returns to New York City for its 4th year June 16-23, 2017. This unique series of events has been proclaimed by New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, as the Official New York City Pride Fashion Event. Over the past 3 years, RFW has attracted thousands of LGBTQ+ supporters, fashion elite attendees, bloggers, buyers, celebrities, top-tier fashion editors, photographers, VIPs and tastemakers with over 6 million impressions.

Hailed by the Huffington Post Gay Voices as one of the premiere Pre-Pride Fashion Events in the nation representative of the LGBTQ community values. RFW has created safe and creative spaces for our entire LGBTQ+ community. Each event delivers a social responsibility message and creates awareness. The aim of RFW is not only to support the business of queer style, the notion of daring to be different while just being yourself but also fosters anti-bulling, anti-domestic violence, body positivity, trans justice, immigration justice, teen homelessness, trafficking, environmental awareness, among other larger issues facing the LGBTQ community at large. After attending a summit at the Hudson Institute, which addressed the destruction of the Himalayan Glaciers, we embraced the Water Keeper Alliance cause to clean up our global water systems. Our present mission is to educate our audience on several social issues destroying our globe and our communities.

As a result, Rainbow Fashion Week became the world first Carbon Neutral Fashion Brand. But we didn't just stop there. RFW is also the worlds' first fashion brand to showcase two double mastectomy breast cancer survivors and a female to male (FTM) 11year old Trans-boy to hit the catwalk, who by the way graced the cover of National Geographic this year.

We are pleased to invite you to participate with us this year. Whatever, you have to offer, your time, attendance, social media posting, production assistance, photography, videography, hair, make-up, styling, catering, sponsorship, helping each one, to reach one and teach one about our causes. Every participation we obtain not only benefits us as a community but also enables us to deliver great social marketing campaigns directly to our audience. There is nothing too small you can offer. So if you are looking for the regular fashion event you are at the wrong place, these are Not Your Average Fashion Shows focusing on the art of fashion, film, art and technology. We Are One Nation Under the Rainbow.

I would like to thank my team for helping us produce these wonderful shows year after year. Together we can all make a difference helping thousands of people to have a platform to showcase their exceptional talents in 8 Days of Queer, while changing the world one show at a time.

My name is Cheryl Lathan, and straight out of Brooklyn born and raised. I have been shooting photography professionally for little over three years now. What I love about photography is that it transcends time and space. You are stopping a moment in time and recording it via your snap shot. Sometimes I look for the mundane in a subject and try to bring to life and make it an art piece. For me, it's easy to take beautiful pictures of models, landscapes, street photography, etc. But that is not my purpose I'm not interested in taking an average picture that everyone can take with his or her cell phone. So, the question I get asked the most is, what type of photographer are you. I always say I'm an artist that so happens to take pictures. Many people were surprised when I picked my camera back up 2 years, and dove head first back into my first love, which is the Arts. I have always been artist, I went to school for art, studied the history of the different periods of art. I so happened to fall in love with the Abstract Expressionist and Impressionist period. So, when I was given an opportunity last year to take some wedding photos in Paris, France. I jumped at the opportunity.

Paris being the Fashion capital of the world, I got a chance to do some street photography, landscape and portraiture. My inspiration comes from my mom and dad, and I also had an opportunity to Speak with Ernie Paniccioli, and American Photographer of The Hip Hop Culture who has published eight books on the Hip Hop Culture. I remember sitting with Brother Ernie and telling him I had a strong passion for Art/Photography. He told me to find your niche, find a subject that speaks to you and capture it as only you could. BluPhotoArt was born. I has been fortune it enough in this short period of time to photograph: Chaka Khan, Janelle Monae, Nile Rodgers, Audra Day, Senator Cory Booker, Fat Joe, Black Rob, Chad Coleman, Melly Mel, Prince Paul, Dick Gregory, Nominee of the Democratic Party, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Bill Perkins, Kathleen Clever, Jazsmine Sullivan, Marcus Samuelsson, Darryl Dawkins and I'm just getting started. What I hope to bring to Rainbow Fashion Week is lending a voice to the people visually, that you would less likely to see in a traditional New York Fashion Week show.
